It could have been a Sears portrait studio. Wish I still had the photos that were taken there. I also remember that in my family, Kay's Castle was competition for the newer Baskin Robbins that came in across the road. My dad, my brother and myself choosing Kay's, and mom choosing Baskin Robbins. Baskin Robbins didn't have table arcade games or bubble gum ice cream! Kay's did! I miss the Rudolph's pizza the first place I had Hawaiian pizza with maraschino cherries, ham, and pineapple, eaten by candles lit on the tables. Nothing like it! It was located near the Krystal downtown for a while, the building was recently demolished.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03798964939718208837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2047095566316955789.post-65110999711084109432014-09-25T19:11:43.865-07:002014-09-25T19:11:43.865-07:00My father, W.L. Originally named Bryman's 7 Cities Plaza, referring to it once being the primary shopping center for Northwest Georgia. My father told me the 7 cities, in addition to Dalton, were Calhoun, Chatsworth, Ringgold, LaFayette, Summerville, and Ellijay.
The original signage for Bry-Man's Plaza was mid center googie modern with a Burger Chef-esque sign with a groovy 3-d star.

Major tenents for the original plaza, now called Bry-Man's Plaza North, were grocers Colonial and Winn-Dixie, Sears catalog store, J.C.Penney Co., McCrory, Dunaway Drugs, Davis Bake Shop, Kays Kastle Ice Cream(the marquee was a giant 3 scoop ice cream cone with a boy licking the ice cream), Singer Sewing Machines, Thom McHan Shoes, and numerous others.

The enclosed "mall" where O'Henry's is was the McCrory, the grill and lunch counter in O'Henry's are relics from the McCrory's lunch counter.

The plaza's first major competition came from Dalton Shopping Center, closer to I-75 in 1969, and then in 1980, Walnut Square. Bry-Man's Plaza South was constructed in 1979 to help shore up the center with a mall being built. Its initial tenants included Dunaway and Winn-Dixie relocting, Duff's Smorgasbord, Goody's Family Clothing-lured from downtown Dalton, and Baskin-Robbins.

Calhoun, Ga has Wally Bryant Blvd at Calhoun Crossing Shopping Center, named after local developer Wallace Bryant, the Bry of Bry-Man's Plaza.Kennoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2047095566316955789.post-53317536174628529312009-06-18T16:55:46.308-07:002009-06-18T16:55:46.308-07:00This place is like a composite of the old strip ma...This place is like a composite of the old strip malls we have here in western Virginia from that era. My seasonal job is at a tax preparation place in a mall like this. I love the old storefronts and the open air mall section.Steven Swainhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01567198484359363455noreply@blogger.com
